Artist Statement
Niklas Böhle is a contemporary painter who merges figuration with abstraction to explore themes of growth, self-discovery, and transformation. Through his work, he seeks to infuse the world with beauty and meaning, beyond the flat shallowness he often sees in the world. He views his art as a co-creation with life, created to honor life.
Originally from Ulm, Germany, Niklas primarily uses acrylic paint and oil sticks on canvas. With this, he achieves a balance between precision and intuitive exploration, crafting a dynamic visual language that encourages introspection and emotional resonance.
A central aspect of Niklas' current works is the self-portrait, where he portrays his understanding of himself in significant situations and emotional states, showing himself open, honest, and vulnerable. His work also frequently incorporates a feminine presence, expressed through direct figuration, flowing organic shapes, or symbolic imagery.
His paintings don’t aim to replicate what’s visible but instead capture the deeper reality unfolding in “other realms”. He allows his receptivity and sensitivity to guide him in this process.
His journey began in 2021, sparked by the inspiration of a concert that awakened a desire to explore painting. What began as free-form experimentation gradually evolved into an intentional practice. Today, Niklas focuses on refining his technique, deepening his understanding of art theory, and creating paintings that hold greater meaning and conceptual depth.
